Jack S. Detwiler

Jack S. Detwiler, 76, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, January 28, 2007. He was born December 15, 1930 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania. In 1944 Jack joined the United States Army and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1970. He worked for the City of Long Beach, New York, New York Metropolitan Transit Authority until 1982, and was then self employed until he moved to Arizona and worked with the Arizona Department of Corrections until he retired in 1993.

Jack earned his Associate’s Degree from the University of Maryland. He was active in various Catholic churches, a member of the Retired Officers Association, the N.R.A., and a lifetime member of the D.A.V.

Jack is survived by his wife, Ovella Detwiler of Yuma; sons, Donald R. Detwiler, Robert L. Detwiler both of Elmont, New York, Darrell D. Detwiler of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Andrew Detwiler and Mark Detwiler both of Tucson; daughter, Victoria Detwiler Jonda of Tucson; fifteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by sons Jack S. Detwiler and Michael Detwiler.

The family honored Jack’s memory privately with friends in Yuma this week. Jack will be laid to rest with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, February 22, 2007.
