In a back-and-forth contest, the Surf Dawgs struck for four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and coasted home with an 8-4 win over the Yuma Scorpions Wednesday at Desert Sun stadium.
Surf Dawg shortstop Adam Callan homered in the fifth and then outfielder Aaron Davis' double in the seventh was followed by outfielder Derek Scott's triple to lock the game up for Sonora.
Sidearmer Matt Diaz picked up the win as he held the Scorpions scoreless over the last two innings after relieving starter Cesar Solano.
For Yuma, Sergio Romo was strong early but was touched for three runs in the fourth before giving way to lefty reliever Robin Jaegge. The Scorpions' offense was led by OF James Compo who had a two doubles, two RBIs, and a run scored.

With major leaguer Garrett Stephenson on the mound for his first start, the Snow Falcons built a 4-0 lead after five innings, but fell victim to another Miners comeback as the bullpen couldn't close it out.
The Miners struck with five runs in the last two innings and then won it in extra innings to move into a tie with Yuma for first place in the AWL.
Canada's offense was fueled by big third baseman Michael Thompson's double, triple, and two RBIs and Jordan DeVoir's two hits and two RBIs, including the game-winning single that scored Matt Martinez, who had been hit by a pitch.
The Falcons had scored early and often, led by Jeff Carper's two hits that included a home run and a pair of RBIs. Geron Sands had a pair of hits for the Falcons, as did OF Geoff Wagner.
